A Raker is only required for a jumping event like the Long Jump and Triple Jump.
Being a Raker is not a huge commitment of time and really benefits the efficiency and enjoyment of the event for the athlete. Typically there is only one jumping event per Age Group each week.
The Raker’s role requires waiting for the jump to be completed and the competitor has left the pit, re-filling any foot marks or body marks made in the put. The next athlete cannot jump until the Raker has finished levelling the sand in the pit.
For the safety of the Raker, they should stand in a sensible position to avoid possible injury. The best location is to the side of the landing pit, in a sensible position facing the jumper, and concentration is essential. The Rake should not be in the pit when a Jumper is landing.
A Raker does not require a WWVP Card.
